Phenomenal Phnom Penh

Documenting the first leg of our stay in Cambodia

We started the first leg of our Cambodia vacation in the city of Phnom Penh. Walking around, one would see that Phnom Penh is largely untouched; shops are mostly small and family run. Occasionally, you would notice Western influences in the form of coffee shops (not the Singaporean kind haha) and industrial interiors. Such was the case at Tama Hotel where we stayed for two nights. The hotel boasts a city view from its rooms on the 22nd floor, and has excellent food as well. Tama Hotel's cafe is small and select, offering the best nosh cooked up from the freshest ingredients reminiscent of a Melbourne brunch. A staircase leads to Eclipse Sky Bar, where one can sip cocktails and enjoy the rooftop view of the busy city.

Phnom Penh is always bustling with activity; the road traffic is the perfect example of it. A tad bit chaotic, it was nothing less than challenging for us foreigners to walk on the streets, especially when traffic in Singapore is the polar opposite. With all the dodging of cars and weaving between lanes, what was a 10 minute walk on Google maps turned out to be a 20 minute one! Add in the scorching noon sun, and you get the worst. walk. ever. My advice is to take a tuktuk especially if you're unfamiliar with messy traffic.

Tomorrow we'll be travelling to Koh Rong island for some much-needed island respite. It'll be our first time there and I'm absolutely stoked to be surrounded by sand and sea for the best five days. Until then!
